Our small fry, Hayes Rylan, wants so much to be a big fry. He will sprint into Jack's classroom and jump right in on all the big kid fun. He hikes his leg over and over again trying to get on the tricycle. He has no problem diving on top of a Fisher dog pile. He has become very opinionated about which books he wants to read at bedtime. He makes all the right sounds as he drives his cars and flies his airplanes. He loves to stand on his stool and brush his teeth all by himself. He runs the other way when it's time for bed and/or a diaper change. He is talking up a storm and has no problem letting you know if you didn't hear him quite right.
But lucky for me, he still has plenty of 'small fry' moments. He still wants me to kiss each and every injury and those kisses almost always do the trick. He still has only one dance move. He still gives great hugs and perfectly slobbery open mouthed kisses. He still gets heartbroken any time you have to tell him no. He still needs a bath after almost every meal. He still gets ecstatic over things as simple as a big acorn. And he still wants to be right in the middle of everything, actually make that right in the lap of everyone (especially his ma-MA).
But I guess, I still have no choice but to let our smallest fry turn into a little bit of a bigger fry. I just hope that when I ask him who my baby is, he'll keep pointing to himself...at least for a little while. : )
