Jason wanted to do one last triathlon this summer so we decided to make a weekend of it and go to the race in New Braunsfuls. We went up on Friday afternoon thinking we would get there in time to maybe swim at the hotel or whatever. Unfortunately, all of our plans were quickly derailed because we got into a car accident outside of Austin. Before I go any further, let me just say that we are all very much okay! We were lucky because we were in heavy traffic so we weren't going very fast, but there is probably not much scarier than the sound and look of a collision followed by your baby crying. Jason and I knew we were okay so we rushed to comfort Jack. Thankfully, he was mostly just scared except for a couple of small cuts on his collarbone from the car seat straps. Once we knew he was okay, we were still pretty freaked out about Hayes and needed confirmation that he was okay. It is ironic because we had just had a doctor's appointment on Thursday where the nurse had described us as "cruising". Well, let me tell you that there is not much that can make you feel less like you are "cruising" than being in an ambulance checking for a fetal heartbeat. Luckily, they found one and later that night Hayes was back to his usual active self. All in all, it was an extremely scary experience that has only made us feel more grateful for our healthy family.
Although sitting on the side of an Austin highway for two hours was not exactly what we had planned for Friday...Saturday went off without a hitch. We took Jack to the "huge water park" aka Shlitterbahn! It was a perfectly hot day and we all had a blast conquering the lazy river and Jack was just about fearless on the blue slides! As we left, Jack kept saying " I love you, water park" so I would say it was a definite success...
After what already seemed like a full weekend, Jason's race was finally Sunday morning! He did awesome and probably ended up with one of his better showings in a triathlon so far. Jack loved playing on the beach and swimming with the "fishies" You could definitely tell it was August outside, that I am almost eight months pregnant, and that Jack had had a couple of late nights...but we still had a lot of fun supporting Jason as usual.
So although our weekend didn't begin exactly how we pictured it, we still managed to have a ton of fun on our little weekend away!
P.S. I have no idea why this post is underlined and we can't figure out how to get it to not be underlined. I guess I just really mean what I'm saying this time! : )

So glad to know you guys are okay after the accident, looks like you had a fabulous weekend. We're looking forward to seeing you at Jack's b-day party. I'm guessing a good gift might be something to do with cars? See you soon! Mehgan
OMG!! SO glad you guys are ok. How scary. Ugh...
The dirty feet pics make my feelings of being in a state of poor motherhood much better. Do you need to borrow my flag?
And one more thing...how different the Grismill looks in these pics compared to the last visit there. I think I much prefer the view with kids.
Love ya!
So glad y'all are ok! How scary. I've been to Schlitterbahn before but never to the Gristmill. Must not be a true Texan then, right? Take care of yourself and Hayes! Put your feet up! Your's aren't that dirty, are they? ;-)
Holy cow Ashlee, SO glad to hear everyone is okay. SCARY..
Jack couldn't get enough of the water park, he's all smiles! Love the slide pic..too cute. And yes, the artsy picture is so you,but love them!
